Modern Technology

In this generation, the internet has transformed/changed our culture. In today’s society, I see a positive change and a negative change in our social group.
One way the internet has changed our lifestyle is it’s much easier to communicate with friends and family. Whenever you miss your family you can now use Skype, Viber, and WhatsApp. The best part of using this software application is that it is completely for free. I myself use this software application to talk with my sisters. The great part is I don’t have to worry about spending money on plane tickets just to see them.
Another way the internet has transformed our culture is, we are learning new things from each other. In the article, “10 ways Social Media is Transforming Our World, by Lisa Galarneau, points out, “We learn from each other. You can find everything from make-up tips to channeled extraterrestrial messages on YouTube. And if you have ever doubted that kids are learning things these days (Galarneau).” I can definitely agree with Lisa because I myself learned many things off of YouTube, especially makeup. YouTubers them self-made their full-time job as a makeup guru and vlogging. Lisa also points out that kids are also learning things. Lisa is not joking because my one-year-old niece learned her ABC’s off the internet and she knows how to bring her favorite kids show on the iPad. I thank the internet for that.
Now at this point you know the positive change. Here is a twist on how the internet has had a negative effect on culture. Online bullying happens extremely to teenagers involved on the internet. Teenagers put almost anything on the internet. Whether it’s a selfie, a family pic or even a picture of them being naked. This leads to gossip and we all know gossip leads to cyber bullying. In the blog, Cyber-Gossip, by Sue Scheff, says, “In today’s internet age, gossip can be spread at lightning speed to hundreds, thousands or millions of people. The new “party line” is cyberspace where millions of people can all access the same information instantaneously. Just get on your computer, iPhone, iPad or Smartphone and let the rumors fly (Scheff).” Bullies are very mean, so they develop gossip and makeup stories that may not be true. It’s horrible and it should stop, but the internet has opened and gave the ability to access anyone’s blog, Instagram and Facebook.
In conclusion, the internet has changed and transformed todays culture in a positive and a negative way. No matter what, we will always be thankful for the incredible access to the internet. We just have to use it in a respectful and responsible way.

About me!
My name is Woafa Bibi Saidi, and I am 19 years old. I was born in Queens, New York City. I was a premature baby, and I guess I really wanted to see the world as fast as I could. I have a huge family who I adore so much. I have two brothers who drive me crazy and three beautiful sisters. I'm currently enrolled in Schenectady County Community College full time as a major in Business.
Sadly I’m the middle child, but I’m the creative one. Literally, all of my family members are building a career into the medical field and I can say they have a boring personality. Ever since I was a little girl, I always had a passion for art, mainly in makeup.  I always hated writing, It is one thing I struggle with. I am more of a hands-on person and if you tell me I have to clean, cook and glam up a bride within 2 hours, I so would. I want to pursue my career in marketing/advertising in cosmetics. In a couple years, you'll see my name on a makeup brand.
Many people have doubted me throughout the year, but the hate has built me stronger. My parents forced me to find my career in nursing and I didn’t want to hurt their feelings. So when I was 16 years old I went to a nursing program that my high school provided. I got my Certified Nurse Assistant license and worked at a nursing home for 2 years. It was definitely a great experience, but I just knew it wasn’t for me.
Every day I would wake up knowing I had to work and it was very hard for me because I thought I failed my goals and my dream has been shattered. I never told my parents how miserable I was. Without telling my parents, I applied to Macy’s to work at a cosmetic counter. Once I got hired, I told my parents, but they weren’t too happy.
A couple months after working at Macy's, I got promoted as a manager of Bobbi Brown counter. All the hate and hard work paid off for once. My parents were so excited that they never doubted me ever since. I am truly proud of myself because I am only 19 and a manager of my favorite counter. I guess dreams do come true, but my dreams are getting bigger day by day.
"Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. remember all things are possible for those who believe" (Gail Dever)
